John Inazu Lecture

  • Category: Press Release
  • Event : Chaplain's Office Lecture
  • Project date: April 10, 2024
  • Project URL: John Inazu Press Release

About

For this project, I researched the featured speaker, John Inazu, and the content that he would be speaking for the Chaplain's Office Lumen Lecture. My role was to ensure that the informtaion on the press release was accurate, informative, and inviting. Using AP Style guidelines, I drafted the press release to engage with the Berry community, inviting students and the public to John Inazu's lecture, "Surviving and Thriving through Deep Difference".

Skills learned and utilized in this project include professional writing, research, event promotion, and AP Style formatting.

Berry Journey Story

About

My involvement in this project was through the role of an editor. I worked on this story alongside Alyssa Elmore (Reporter) as the editor and advisor for the story. I helped Alyssa understand the journalistic process and find sources for her story. She worked on the piece for Digital Storytelling I (COM 250), while I advised through my time in Digital Storytelling II (COM 303).

Skills learned and utilized during this process include editing, advising, and communication.

Josiah Queen Concert

About

This was my second press release for the Chaplain's Office. I had the opportunity to share with the Berry community and Rome public, the Josiah Queen worship concert. I really enjoyed working on this project, as I was able to write about a well recognized, Dove-Award winning, singer-songwriter. Because it was a big event, my use of language to present event logistics and important information was crucial to effective telling of events.

Frederick Bauerschmidt Lecture

About

For this project I researched and wrote about Frederick Bauerschmidt, with the intent to inform students of the CE Credit lecture on Bauershmidt's book, "The Love That is God". It was important to showcase his academic background, published works, and theological beliefs in order to establish Bauerschmidt's credibility. I was able to engage with AP Style, research synthesis, and event promotion.

Torey D'Shaun Concert

About

This was my most recent story done for the Chaplain's Office. We had the opportunity to welcome Christian rapper, Torey D'Shaun. This press release was essential to not only inform students and the public about the concert, but to also enlighten the reader on who Torey D'Shaun is. The Chaplain's Office was excited to welcome Torey D'Shaun but recognized that he is not as well known as our last worship singer, Josiah Queen. Therefore, working on this press release taught me a lot of informing effectively and engaging storytelling to report events.
